Winter 2016 - almost normal rain!

Feels like we have had almost the normal amount of rain this year ... even though we are still over 100mm behind our average (only 455mm so far this year - should be about 560) ... but much better than last year. Even so, many Jarrah trees are dying due to diseases and insect attacks.

29 May 2016 - Beginning winter weeding - looking for bulbs after first rains - found a few lachenalia

Photos corresponding to these locations are shown below. In summary, there are lachenalia at #1 and #6 - not flowering yet.
#3 is a large infestation of pelargonium - may be good for a community weeding event.
Site #2 - Albucca/Ixia (not sure which) - coming up but not in flower yet. Lots of Banksia have fallen down here - may need to cut dead branches to get at the plants.
Site #4 - freesia scattered through area - not dense - spray or hand weed?
Site #7 - pigface infestation - do we remove it?
Remainder - freesias - not flowering yet.

Monitoring Perth Banksia Woodlands Restoration Project - Shenton Bushland

The Friends of Shenton Bushland and the City of Nedlands have obtained funding to restore a degraded area in the bushland to provide food and habitat for Cockatoos in the Perth area.

As part of The Friends' contribution to the project we have been collecting seeds to plant out, and monitoring outcomes from the project.

Long Autumn

We have had a long autumn this year ... winter only arrived this week ... we have been having mainly sunny days and cool mornings with only occasional showers until now. Life goes on in the bushland despite the long autumn, with the winter weeds beginning to emerge and wildflowers such as hovea coming out in flower.

Part of the reason for the long delay in posting is that Google has done something to the Blogger Platform which makes it very difficult to make posts  ... when I try to edit the HTML the cursor disappears ... I discovered that I can get it back by reloading the page ... I wish Google would not keep making changes that make it harder to use their system ... I may need to change to another service...
